New transport fare hike in Bolu! Full fare ticket is now 34 TL

Upon the request of the Bolu Chamber of Drivers and Automobile Tradesmen, the agenda item regarding price hikes for private public buses and commercial taxi transport was discussed during the June session of the Bolu Municipal Council. The requested price increases for private public buses and taxis used in urban transport were approved unanimously. In this context, it was decided to implement a 33 percent hike in public transport and a 25 percent hike in commercial taxis. The full fare ticket price for private public buses rose from 25 liras to 34 liras, while the student ticket increased from 18 liras to 24 liras. In Bolu, a 63 percent hike in transport fares had been implemented last April.

REACTION FROM THE LEFT PARTY

The Bolu Provincial Organization of the Left Party (SOL Parti) reacted to the hikes and demanded they be withdrawn. The statement emphasized that the duty of the public sector is not to generate price hikes but to take measures to protect citizens.

The statement is as follows:

"While our people are becoming increasingly impoverished by the government's economic policies, a decision taken unanimously by the Bolu Municipal Council has now resulted in a hike of up to 33 percent in public transport in our city. According to the decision, the full fare has been set at 34 TL, while the student public transport tariff has become 24 TL.

Municipalities can, of course, cite the government's price hikes and rising costs as justifications. However, the duty of the public sector is not to provide justifications, but to take measures that will protect the citizen. Instead of hikes in transport, it should be the duty of all newly elected municipalities to initiate discounts and implement a social policy that provides citizens with the right to free transport.

'WE DO NOT ACCEPT THE HIKES'

Free transport, free water, and humane living conditions are the rights of all our people. And local governments are tasked with implementing these. A public-oriented policy for our working people must be implemented immediately. We do not accept these hikes, which could lead to the usurpation of the right to transport, during these days when economic difficulties are breaking the backs of citizens and survival is becoming difficult in every sense. The hikes must be withdrawn immediately!"
