One and a half years of savings stolen in 15 minutes: A single letter difference in the vehicle registration

Cumali Orhan (40), a father of two who works as a car painter in the industrial zone in Antalya, contacted A.S. to purchase a damaged vehicle listed for sale online for 105,000 TL.

While the parties agreed on 90,000 TL, Orhan sent his cousins to the specified address in Kırşehir to inspect the vehicle.

After his cousins saw the vehicle, the sales process began. Orhan, who gave power of attorney to a person found by A.S., trusted the registration document issued in his own name and sent the 90,000 TL to the other party.

SHOCKED WHEN HE SAW THE LETTER ON THE REGISTRATION

Orhan then called an auto service to pick up the vehicle, but was shocked to learn that the vehicle was not for sale and that the registered owner was someone else.

Checking the registration document, Orhan realized he had been defrauded when he noticed that a single letter on the license plate in the registration document issued in his name was different from the license plate of the vehicle in the advertisement.

Unable to reach the other party, Orhan checked the license plate on the fake registration document and, upon learning that there was no vehicle registered to traffic with that plate, he headed straight to the police station.

"HE CHANGED A SINGLE LETTER"

Describing what he went through, Cumali Orhan said, "A fake registration document prepared in my name, a fake contract as if it were signed in the presence of a notary. We trusted the man.

There is only one difference between the license plate of the vehicle and the license plate of the vehicle we wanted to buy. We missed this.

They wrote EH on the license plate of the vehicle I saw, and EM on ours. He changed a single letter; I didn't notice this," he said.

Stating that he called the service after depositing the money but was shocked by the response he received, Orhan said, "I said I bought the vehicle and asked for the owner to be called. The owner had neither given power of attorney nor authorized a sale.

So it turns out the owner is someone else. In other words, I bought an imaginary vehicle. Including the power of attorney fees and the loss from converting my dollars, I lost 100,000 TL.

He withdrew the money from the account we deposited it into and immediately closed that account at the bank. Then I could never reach them again. I am a major victim. The man took my 1.5 years of savings in 15 minutes," he said.

Orhan also addressed the person who defrauded him, saying, "Since he does this, he must have no children, and he has no conscience. If he uses my good intentions to harm me, he is not a human being, he doesn't even count as an animal.

If he has a conscience, let him pay my money back. I do not forgive him. Even if it doesn't happen in this world, we will definitely meet in the next world," he stated.
