Property dispute ends in bloodshed in Denizli: Uncle shoots and kills nephew who assaulted his aunt

Kızılca neighborhood in the Tavas district of Denizli was the scene of a family feud. A long-standing property dispute between 74-year-old Ramazan G. and his 44-year-old nephew, Osman Karaalp, who lived across from each other in the same neighborhood, flared up once again.

The argument that broke out when the two met in front of their homes quickly turned into a violent fight.

Tensions rose further when Ramazan G.’s wife, Elif G., intervened in the argument. At that moment, Osman Karaalp, who is alleged to have mental health issues, grabbed a piece of wood from the side of the road and attacked both his uncle and his aunt.

Seeing that Elif G. had collapsed to the ground after being struck by the wood, Ramazan G. went to his house, retrieved his rifle, and returned to the scene. Ramazan G. opened fire on his nephew with his weapon.

Upon reports from neighbors shaken by the sound of gunfire, gendarmerie and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Medical personnel determined that Osman Karaalp had died at the scene. The severely injured Elif G. was first taken to Tavas State Hospital and subsequently transferred to a hospital in central Denizli due to the severity of her condition.

Osman Karaalp’s body was sent to the morgue of the Forensic Medicine Institute’s Denizli Group Presidency following an examination. Ramazan G., who was taken to the hospital along with his wife, was detained by the gendarmerie following his treatment.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.
