Record prison sentence requested for teacher accused of abusing students

M.A., a classroom teacher at Sınav College in Kartepe, allegedly sexually abused 6 of his students between 2023 and 2024.

It is alleged that M.A. would send other students out of the classroom by saying, "I will reward you," and would harass some students by taking them onto his lap. The matter was reported to the police after the students told their families about the situation. M.A. was taken into custody on January 7 following complaints from 6 families. After his police processing, teacher M.A. was referred to the courthouse. The teacher was arrested on January 8 and sent to prison after appearing before a prosecutor.

INDICTMENT PREPARED

The indictment for the case, which was opened for the crimes of "sexual abuse of victims under the age of 12," "simple threat," and "qualified sexual abuse of a child who has not completed the age of 12" between 2023 and 2024, has been accepted by the Kocaeli 1st High Criminal Court.

The public prosecutor prepared an indictment requesting a total prison sentence of 84 years and 6 months to 204 years and 5 months for the defendant, citing his status as an educator and the fact that he committed the crimes of sexual abuse and threats against multiple students in a chain-like manner.

The indictment also included the statements of the children and the defendant. The victimized children stated that their classroom teacher had performed obscene acts toward them.

M.A., who does not accept the charges, said, "I have been married for 22 years and have a daughter from this marriage. I have been working as a classroom teacher at Kartepe Sınav College for 3 years. Because the school is private, we were expected to approach the students in a more affectionate and attentive manner. I have had no meetings with students outside of school. I have absolutely never touched any of my students. I have absolutely never kissed any of my students on the lips. I absolutely do not accept the accusations against me. I have not sexually abused anyone."
