Erdoğan issues warning, RTÜK takes action

The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), in conjunction with the National Security Council (MGK), held a comprehensive meeting regarding the violent content frequently encountered on television screens. The main agenda of the meeting was the implementation of a "value placement" model in television series and programs, similar to the "product placement" practice used for consumer goods.

With this new regulation brought to the agenda, the aim is to highlight positive social values such as family, kindness, mercy, and compassion in series and programs. Officials aim to contribute to social consciousness by consciously integrating these values into scripts.

It is known that the meeting in question was held after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan drew attention to elements of violence in television content and issued instructions to the relevant institutions.

In his statement following the cabinet meeting, President Erdoğan had used the following expressions: "Instead of productions that encourage violence and legitimize distorted relationships, more space should be given on screens to productions that center the family and encourage kindness, mercy, and compassion. We are a nation that has placed kindness at the center of its life. Many beautiful people, like our martyr teacher Ayla, remind us of what is in the essence of this nation. We are determined to be more uncompromising in addressing the issue of violence and degeneration on screen, starting with RTÜK and our relevant institutions."

Officials state that the regulation being worked on prioritizes reducing the negative effects of television productions on viewers and the integration of society around healthy values. It is planned to strengthen content with themes that provide social benefit, such as compassion, instead of the recently increasing productions containing violence. Taking new legal steps when necessary is also on the agenda.
