Famous presenter and musician Gökhan Abur has passed away

Musician and NTV Meteorology Editor Gökhan Abur has passed away at the age of 80 in the hospital where he was receiving treatment. Abur had been battling cancer for approximately two years.

WHO IS GÖKHAN ABUR?

Gökhan Abur was born on January 1, 1943, in Afyonkarahisar. Abur, who was 80 years old, lived in many different provinces across Turkey due to his father's career as an officer. He spent his school years in various cities and eventually settled in Istanbul with his family after his father retired from his post.

After the family lived in Istanbul for a while, they moved to Karabük, where Abur completed his middle and high school education. During his high school years, he was involved in various musical activities. After high school, he was admitted to Istanbul Technical University to study meteorological engineering and moved to Istanbul, where he continued to participate in music groups during his university years. Having spent his university years deeply involved in music, he performed in a competition organized by Hafta Sonu Newspaper in 1967, where he managed to place fourth. Following the competition, he received offers to record records, which he accepted, eventually producing a total of 14 45-rpm records and an album titled "Bir Gün Karşılaşırsak" (If We Meet One Day).

After 1983, he became interested in the sea and maritime affairs. Later, he provided training to long-distance captains. In 2000, he hosted a program called "Açık Deniz" (Open Sea) on Açık Radyo for two years. After 2000, Gökhan Abur taught "Meteorology and Marine Weather Forecasting" at Atlantis Yachting.

Gökhan Abur graduated from Istanbul Technical University's Department of Meteorology as a high engineer. He worked for many years at the Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute's Meteorology Department. He retired from his position as a meteorology engineer at the Kandilli Observatory in 2003.

A father of three, Gökhan Abur was the presenter of the NTV Weather program broadcast on NTV.
