Pro-government accounts targeted her: TRT 1 anchor removed from post after 'Mother's Day' message

During the main news bulletin broadcast on May 10, Mother's Day, the final remarks of anchor Işıl Açıkkar drew attention.

"God has not yet blessed me with a human child, but He has honored me by serving His silent servants, by being a mother to them; I, too, am a mother to a furry friend..." Açıkkar, who emphasized her love for pets with these words, was targeted by pro-government troll accounts on social media.

According to the report in Sözcü, following these comments that spread rapidly on social media, it was learned that the channel management removed Açıkkar from her position as the main news anchor.

Following Açıkkar's remarks, the Bosch Mother's Day commercial, in which pets were implied to be "children," came to mind. RTÜK had launched an investigation into the commercial in question. The company had pulled the commercial, which had also drawn a reaction from Minister of Family Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, from broadcast.

In the statement made by RTÜK, the President's "Population and Family Decade" vision was underlined, and it was noted that motherhood is not just an individual but a social trust. Emphasizing that family values would be protected on screens, the statement said, "As RTÜK, we importantly remind that we will not allow any erosion of values on screens through the concept of family under any circumstances, and we respectfully announce to the public that an investigation has been launched by our Supreme Council regarding the relevant commercial film."

No official statement has been made by the TRT management regarding Açıkkar's removal from her post.
