RTÜK issues license warning to Fatih Altaylı's YouTube channel

The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has issued an official notice regarding journalist Fatih Altaylı's YouTube channel shortly after his arrest. RTÜK issued the warning on the grounds that the channel is broadcasting online without a broadcast license.

In the statement, it was emphasized that under the "Article 10 of the Regulation on the Presentation of Radio, Television and On-Demand Broadcasts from the Internet Environment," platforms broadcasting online are required to apply for a license. RTÜK stated that broadcasts could continue for another three months if the application petition and letter of undertaking are submitted, along with the advance payment of the three-month license fee. Furthermore, it was stated that the same conditions would apply for an additional three-month period if the licensing procedures are not completed.

In the notice sent to Altaylı's channel, RTÜK informed that if the necessary applications are not made or if the broadcasts are not stopped within 72 hours, a request will be filed with the Criminal Court of Peace for the removal of the content or an access block. It was also noted that other legal actions could be taken in accordance with the relevant articles of the law.

At the end of the statement, it was indicated that this announcement was published in accordance with the decision taken at the RTÜK meeting dated March 27, 2025. RTÜK's move shows that developments in the media and broadcasting sector following Altaylı's arrest are being closely monitored.
