Ali Babacan on interviews: 'The promise to abolish interviews has been forgotten'

DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan brought up the issue of interviews—which AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan had promised to abolish—after a citizen in Kocaeli complained about the system of nepotism and lack of merit.

Upon the citizen's words, “My daughter in Ankara wants it so much; she is a graduate of a Vocational High School of Health. They want nepotism. Do I have to support a party?” Babacan replied, “They say, ‘It won't happen without nepotism,’ right?” When the citizen stated that they did not want nepotism and that they wanted their daughter to get a job based on her own merit, Babacan responded: “A change of government is necessary for this. Otherwise, they have become too accustomed to these things.”

The citizen expressed their grievances with these words: “My voice is not heard. My voice cannot be heard here. I am just one person. I am pleading. Now our young people are university graduates. I could not get my child a job here because they are a university graduate. Apparently, they should have been a primary school graduate.”

In his conversation with the troubled father, Ali Babacan also touched upon the interviews that Erdoğan had promised to abolish: “Interviews are used as a mechanism to eliminate those who are not convenient for them. Actually, the President also gave his word before the election. He said, ‘I will abolish interviews.’”

In the text of the tweet where he shared the video, Babacan used the following expressions: “Children in our country grew up being told, ‘You will go to university, you will get a job.’ Right now, young people are university graduates but unemployed. The promise to ‘abolish interviews’ has been forgotten and gone. A total change of mentality is essential.”
