Fatih Altaylı's commentary on Özgür Özel-Devlet Bahçeli: 'With one sentence, he brought everyone back to their place in politics'

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli made a statement following the meeting between AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and CHP leader Özgür Özel, saying, "The realization of a broad-based alliance between the AK Party and the CHP, supported by the other elements of the six-party table, is the sincere wish and desire of the Nationalist Movement Party."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel responded to this move by Bahçeli with the words, "He should not push his accomplice toward us after bringing the country to this state."

Journalist Fatih Altaylı evaluated Özel's response to Bahçeli in the section of his column today titled 'Putting the pieces back in place'.

Altaylı used the following expressions regarding Özel:

"Everything suddenly became tense while CHP leader Özgür Özel and the AKP leader were meeting frequently, discussing issues, and positive winds were blowing in politics. The MHP leader said, 'Let us withdraw, and let the AKP and CHP walk together from now on. We will continue to provide our support from the outside.' The CHP leader's response to this was harsh: 'He should not push his accomplice toward us.' Following this sentence, things became quite chaotic, and the AKP took the side of the MHP, which was expected, because the CHP leader had spoken of 'complicity,' and this accusation reunited the partners against the CHP.

In fact, the move made by Özgür Özel was very clever. With one sentence, he brought everyone back to their place in politics.

He eliminated the anxiety of 'Will the CHP become the AKP's new partner?' and emphasized that there would be no cooperation beyond supporting the AKP under the roof of the Parliament only for the use of reason and common sense regarding the economy. But more importantly, he fundamentally disrupted the scheme the MHP had set up in favor of the AKP.

On one hand, the MHP was allowing cooperation between the AKP and the CHP, but on the other hand, it was protecting the AKP against the CHP. The MHP leader would allow the AKP to act as it pleased in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey without needing the CHP, while keeping himself exempt from the government's mistakes. The CHP was actually facing a powerful conspiracy. Özel saw this conspiracy and made the right move."
