Fatih Altaylı: Erbakan's 'Istanbul condition' sparks debate

The "Istanbul condition" in the meeting between Yeniden Refah Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan heldIstanbul condition" came to the fore.

Journalist Fatih Altaylıpointed out in his column today that the advantage the AKP gained when the DEM Party fielded a candidate in Istanbul was lost when the YRP, which is calculated to have 4 points, fielded its own candidate. In his article, he expressed the view that Erbakan is trying to compensate for only getting 5 deputies into Parliament in the previous election with this proposal in the local elections.

"SOME CALL IT BLACKMAIL"

Altaylı stated,"Erbakan knows this too; he is demanding a few municipalities outside of Istanbul and a few districts within Istanbul from the government he has caught by the tail. In a sense, he wants to compensate for the difficult situation his party experienced in the general elections. Some call this 'blackmail.' I, however, call it 'politics.'" he wrote.
