Fatih Altaylı: Losing the war against ignorance is losing the homeland

Journalist Fatih Altaylı, in an article he penned on the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic, reacted to those who did not mention Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in their commemoration messages.

"Atatürk won all the wars and only asked us to continue the war against ignorance," said Altaylı, adding, "We have not lost this war, but we have not won it either. This is the only war we must win in the second century. Losing this war is losing the homeland."

In his article titled "We have only one war left as we enter the 2nd century," Fatih Altaylı used the following expressions: "If Hagia Sophia is on Turkish soil today, it is thanks to Atatürk. If you can sit on the pulpit of Hagia Sophia with a sword in your hand today, it is thanks to him. If it weren't for him, that sword would not be in your hand, but somewhere else, know that!"

Altaylı continued as follows:

"Today, young generations think that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his friends fought their greatest battle on the front lines. I wish it were so. The real struggle was the one waged against ignorance during and after the war. That was Mustafa Kemal's widest front. And it was a front fed by a terrible vicious cycle. Treason fueled ignorance, and ignorance turned into treason. Atatürk's most important war was to defeat this ignorance. The only way to prevent treason was to defeat ignorance and cut the jugular vein of the traitors. Those who avoid mentioning Atatürk's name on the 100th anniversary are the ones who collaborated with the British, the Greeks, and all the enemies and imperialists of those days to rebel against Atatürk, and who did not give up their rebellions even after the Republic was founded.

Today, as we mark the 100th year and enter our 101st year, I am not surprised in the slightest by these traitors in Turkey. They are the children, grandchildren, kinsmen, and degenerates of the traitors of 100 years ago. But I pity the ignorance that unknowingly enters the service of those traitors and is turned into a soldier of the army of treason. And today, on the eve of the 101st year, this is our biggest problem and perhaps what will bring our end.
