Turhan Çömez warns Turkey regarding the Palestine-Israel conflict! "We are facing the threat of a new refugee influx"
İYİ Party Balıkesir Deputy Turhan Çömez stated that a new wave of refugees could arrive in Turkey in relation to the conflicts between Palestine and Israel.
Hamas's armed wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, announced that they launched the Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel on the morning of Saturday, October 7.
During the attack, many Hamas members infiltrated Israel using paramotors, while the Israeli army responded to Hamas with the Iron Swords operation.
As the intensity of the clashes in the region increases day by day, the number of those who have lost their lives has exceeded one thousand.
TURHAN ÇÖMEZ WARNED: A NEW REFUGEE INFLUX MAY OCCUR
İYİ Party Balıkesir Deputy Turhan Çömez evaluated the developments in the region. Sharing a video of approximately 10 minutes on his X account, Çömez warned that there could be a new refugee influx to Turkey due to the conflicts.
Stating that Israel is determined to empty Gaza, where 2 million Palestinians live, Çömez emphasized that Lebanon, where 1.5 million Syrian refugees live, is also a target due to Hezbollah.

Çömez's statements are as follows;
“It is understood that Israel no longer wants a place called Gaza to remain in that geography. It has demanded that the 1.5 million Palestinians living there vacate the region. The Palestinians have nowhere to go. There is Egypt to the South, Israel to the North, and the Mediterranean to the west. Therefore, Gaza is cornered. Despite this, the only thing they can do is enter Israel and become Israeli citizens or become refugees and migrate to other countries.
The fundamental problem is where these people will go. At this very point, Turkey has already been struggling with a refugee crisis for years. Does this pose a new risk and threat to Turkey? This must be calculated and thought through very carefully.
The probability of Israel entering into a conflict, especially with the Iranian-backed Hezbollah, is very high. Reports are coming in that clashes have also started with Hezbollah, which is a very powerful structure in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah is very powerful in Lebanon, and Iran is providing open support, just as it does in Syria.
If Hezbollah also enters the conflict, a significant war will have been opened on two fronts in Israel.
There are around 1.5 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon. What the Syrian refugees will do and where they will go in a conflict environment is a question mark. This creates a second risk for us. The probability of the refugees here coming to Turkey again via Syria is very high.
You will remember that the Pakistani government made an announcement. It announced that there are around 1.7 million illegal Afghans in the country. It called out to them, saying, ‘We will no longer host you in our country. As of November 1, either return to your own country or we will deport you.’
Turkey's eastern border is also facing the risk of a new refugee influx that could come via Iran. It is essential for Turkey to secure both its eastern border and increase its measures, and to produce very realistic policies.”
