Okay Deprem's commentary on the negotiations: 'The most challenging peace talks of the era'
Critical talks that have raised hopes for peace in the Russia-Ukraine war are continuing at Dolmabahçe in Istanbul under Turkey's mediation.
Peace negotiations initiated under Turkey's mediation at Dolmabahçe in Istanbul to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine are continuing.
Providing an assessment on the matter, journalist and author Okay Deprem drew attention to the difficulty of the negotiations in his statement to 12punto.
Deprem stated, 'The most challenging peace negotiations of the recent era have begun. The parties have come to the table in completely opposing positions.'
RUSSIAN DELEGATION ARRIVED YESTERDAY, MET WITH FİDAN
Following Ukraine's positive response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's call for peace, the Russian delegation arrived in Istanbul yesterday morning to participate in the negotiations. The Russian delegation was led by Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky. The delegation held a meeting with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at the Dolmabahçe Working Office in Istanbul.
In the trilateral contacts planned for today, Minister Fidan will hold separate meetings with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, and Russian Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky.
FIRST STATEMENT RELEASED
The first statement from the Russian delegation at Dolmabahçe Palace:
Negotiations will continue in the coming period.
First, a prisoner exchange of 1000 people will take place from both sides.
The Ukrainian side requested that negotiations continue at the level of Heads of State.
Both sides decided to present a detailed roadmap regarding a concrete ceasefire in the coming process.
