4 different interpretations from IYI Party on the Erdoğan-Akşener meeting: 'The winner of this meeting...'

Meral Akşener, who stepped down as IYI Party Chair after the March 31 Local Elections, recently visited AKP Chair and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The meeting, which took place at the Presidential Palace, caused significant controversy within the IYI Party.

Harsh statements came from party officials who learned of the visit through an announcement made by the Palace. 

According to a report in Gazete Duvar: The following comments from party members regarding the visit, which stirred up IYI Party circles, drew attention:

-President Erdoğan measured Akşener's influence over the IYI Party group for a possible constitutional amendment. However, the number of IYI Party deputies who would say yes to a constitutional process that neither the current administration nor Akşener would announce support for does not exceed the fingers of one hand.

-The goal is to stir up the IYI Party. The President wants the continuation of bipolar politics. If the IYI Party is in turmoil, the only rival left will be the CHP. Erdoğan is pleased that his rival is the CHP.

-We are explaining that we will not be part of any movement that empowers this system after the congress; we are developing a strong objection to the one-man system. With this meeting, they want to discredit our objection to the Palace.

-We don't know what Akşener hoped for, but the winner of this meeting is Erdoğan. Those who looked at the photo after the meeting said, "He even made her come to him, bravo." Erdoğan's leadership was reinforced.
