A panorama of the People's Alliance: 'Everything is in disarray'

In the May 14-28 elections, the AKP, MHP, YRP, BBP, HÜDA-PAR, and DSP had entered the elections under the same umbrella.

BBP

Mustafa Destici, leader of the Great Unity Party (BBP), one of the partners of the People's Alliance, criticized the increase in the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) that caused a 6 lira hike in fuel prices. Criticizing the AKP, Destici said that taxes should be collected more from the wealthy. 

Destici commented on the situation, calling it "not moral." Destici had previously criticized the government regarding the raises given to retirees. Most recently, following the deaths of soldiers in the Claw-Lock Operation, Destici demanded the closure of the DEM Party.

MHP

MHP leader Bahçeli made assessments regarding the agenda at his party's group meeting yesterday after the budget marathon ended. Fueling nationalist hate speech over the soldiers who lost their lives in the Claw-Lock Operation, Bahçeli called for the salaries of DEM Party deputies to be cut. Threatening CHP leader Özel, Bahçeli said, "If he doesn't come to his senses, he won't even be able to walk on the street." Bahçeli had also reacted harshly to President Erdoğan's recent remarks regarding moving away from the 50+1 system. Furthermore, Bahçeli had implicitly criticized Yusuf Tekin for defending the cooperation protocol with sharia-advocating foundations.

HÜDAPAR

HÜDA PAR Chairman and Istanbul Deputy Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu used expressions regarding the "federal system" and "autonomy" during his speech at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly. There was no sufficient response from the People's Alliance against Yapıcıoğlu's statements. In the debates held over naming a boulevard after Sheikh Said in Diyarbakır, HÜDA PAR Batman Deputy Serkan Ramanlı also defended Sheikh Said. HÜDA PAR also demanded the removal of obstacles to education in the mother tongue, making statements diametrically opposed to the AKP, MHP, and BBP within the People's Alliance.

YRP

New Welfare Party (YRP) Chairman Fatih Erbakan criticized the AKP in his post-election statements for 'ignoring the grievances of citizens.' Stating that the support they provided was not in exchange for any bargaining, Fatih Erbakan used the expressions, "We owe no debt of gratitude to anyone; we have a debt of service to this nation." Speaking during the 2024 budget negotiations, Erbakan continued his criticisms of the government.

Erbakan said, "The taxes collected from the nation can be used to serve the nation instead of paying interest, and our nation's welfare level can be increased instead of distributing social aid." Erbakan had also announced that they would vote no on the budget. Finally, YRP Deputy Chairman Suat Kılıç said that his party and an AKP delegation had held preliminary talks for cooperation in the local elections. Stating that they expressed that the cooperation would be limited to the provinces of Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir, Kılıç said, "It is useful for those who expect support for the mayoral office to realize that they must accept and adopt giving support for the mayoral office to continue these negotiations." In the statement made by the YRP, it was also stated that if their demands were not met, they would compete with AKP candidates in every province.
