Abdulkadir Selvi heard it at the airport: 'İmamoğlu's diploma should be investigated'

Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi, in his column today, drew attention to allegations regarding the diploma of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and invited the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) to take action.

While evaluating the expected decision from the appellate court regarding İmamoğlu's political ban case, Selvi argued that this diploma issue should be handled seriously before a potential presidential candidacy.

HEARD IT AT THE AIRPORT

Selvi stated that one month before the local elections, a person at the airport expressed their doubts to him regarding Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma. Stating that he did not find it appropriate to share these allegations with the public at that time, Selvi claimed that this issue has been bothering İmamoğlu since the elections.

ALLEGATIONS OF INTER-UNIVERSITY TRANSFER

Selvi stated that it should be investigated whether İmamoğlu transferred from private universities to state universities during the 1990-91 academic years. He put forward the claim that if such a transfer was not possible, İmamoğlu's diploma could be considered invalid. He also expressed that there are question marks regarding grade point averages and compatibility between departments.

CALL FOR INVESTIGATION TO YÖK

Selvi argued that YÖK should clarify İmamoğlu's diploma status by conducting an ex officio investigation. Stating that it is YÖK's duty to clearly resolve such allegations in the public eye, Selvi suggested that this would prevent the issue from creating uncertainty in the political arena.
