Abdulkadir Selvi: 'İmamoğlu has begun to become an existential threat to the CHP'

Hürriyet writer Abdulkadir Selvi covered the criticisms directed at Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, which were brought up during a reported meeting of 11 CHP deputies in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, in his column today.

Selvi stated, “Mayoral candidates are not in contact with Özgür Özel, but with Ekrem İmamoğlu. This is causing a dual-headed structure and unrest within the party. Therefore, the criticisms voiced at the meeting of the 11 CHP deputies are just the tip of the iceberg,” and reported the following:

“1- Ekrem İmamoğlu is not bigger than the CHP. İmamoğlu is dragging the party toward an abyss. He has begun to become an existential threat to the CHP.

2- The polemic he entered into with the İYİ Party is not right. Alliances that were built with difficulty are being wasted. He is doing this for his personal ambitions.

3- There is a great deal of discomfort among deputies in the CHP Group regarding this issue. It is even possible to consider İmamoğlu stepping back.”

Selvi further stated that all the strings in the CHP are "in İmamoğlu's hands," noting the following:

“These are the grievances of a group of CHP deputies. But do they have the power to stop İmamoğlu? I don't think so. But if things continue this way, İmamoğlu will prevent them from being re-elected as deputies in the next election. Because all the strings in the CHP are in İmamoğlu's hands. Özgür Özel cannot even determine a single mayoral candidate despite İmamoğlu.”
