Abdulkadir Selvi's 'Özgür Özel' shift begins: The first crack appeared during the PM election
In his column today, Hürriyet writer Abdulkadir Selvi claimed that the first crack between Özgür Özel and Ekrem İmamoğlu occurred during the Party Assembly (PM) elections. Selvi's article brought to mind the words of President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who had told him to 'do what is necessary.'
President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's remarks to Abdulkadir Selvi during a television program he attended during the election period, where he said, "By God, Mr. Abdulkadir, you will do what is necessary in your column. Mr. Ahmet (Hakan) is doing what is necessary..." had become a major topic of discussion.
It had drawn attention that Selvi wrote articles targeting former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu almost every two days, both before and after Erdoğan's remarks, and both during and after the election period.
Selvi, who also actively wrote articles targeting the CHP and Kılıçdaroğlu during the CHP's party convention process, claimed in his article today that the first crack between Ekrem İmamoğlu and Özgür Özel occurred during the PM elections.
In the relevant section of his article, Selvi stated, "The relationship between Ekrem İmamoğlu and Özgür Özel faced its first test in the Party Assembly elections before even 24 hours had passed. The first struggle between Özgür Özel and Ekrem İmamoğlu took place over the PM list. The PM election had to be postponed three times because the duo could not agree on the lists. It turned out that Ekrem İmamoğlu insisted on a 22-person key list. It was said that Özgür Özel wanted to include former Istanbul provincial chairman Cemal Canpolat in the PM list to avoid the appearance of excluding Alevis, but İmamoğlu objected to this. What was the result? Özgür Özel had to take a step back. Ekrem İmamoğlu got what he wanted. He got the names he wanted into the Party Assembly," he said.
"METROPOLITAN CITIES ARE IN DANGER"
Selvi also stated the following in his article:
"It is said that Özgür Özel wanted to leave the selection of Istanbul's district mayoral candidates to Ekrem İmamoğlu, but that İmamoğlu wants to be influential in determining mayoral candidates across Turkey. It is stated that the candidacies of 10 metropolitan mayors who supported Kılıçdaroğlu are in danger. For Izmir, the name of Selin Sayek Böke has started to be discussed as a replacement for Tunç Soyer. It is said that the candidacies of Özlem Çerçioğlu in Aydın, Yılmaz Büyükerşen in Eskişehir, and Zeydan Karalar in Adana are in jeopardy."
