Ahmet Davutoğlu responds to claims of joining the AKP

İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu visited Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu. Following this closed-door meeting at the Future Party headquarters, the two leaders held a joint press conference. During the meeting, they evaluated the extraordinary session to be held in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) regarding Can Atalay and the allegations that deputies would be joining the AKP.

'PUT FORWARD BY THOSE SUFFERING FROM MYTHOMANIA'

Speaking about the allegations that some deputies from the Future Party would join the AKP, Davutoğlu described these claims as "mythomania." Davutoğlu stated, "We have completed a year of hearing '3 people, 7 people, 1 person, 2 people from the Future Party' [are leaving]. A person should have some sense of shame. It is said that people with mythomania do not feel shame for lying. These people do not feel shame for lying either."

Emphasizing that the Future Party is one of the most important parties capable of changing political equations in Turkey, Davutoğlu said, "If we are unimportant, why are you so interested? We have the power to change the political equation in one move."

'WE ARE READY TO MEET WITH THE AKP'

Stating that the AKP is not a foreign party to them, Davutoğlu reminded that he previously served as AKP Chairman and that he emerged from within broad conservative segments. Davutoğlu said, "Our paths parted because we have serious disagreements. However, we do not shy away from meeting with AKP officials, and we are ready for any kind of meeting."

'CAN ATALAY MUST TAKE THE OATH'

Speaking about TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş calling the Parliament to an extraordinary session regarding Can Atalay, Dervişoğlu stated, "There is a usurped right. The power struggle between judicial bodies has harmed the will of the TBMM. Can Atalay must take the oath at the TBMM podium and take his seat."

INDEPENDENT DEPUTIES MAY GO TO THE AKP

Regarding the allegations that independent deputies who resigned from the İYİ Party would join the AKP, Dervişoğlu said, "They may go; we are also hearing rumors about this. We have not made any negative statements about anyone who has resigned from our party. We wish them success in their new political journey."
