Ahmet Davutoğlu winks at the ruling party for local elections

Making a statement regarding the local elections, Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu said, "If the MHP or the AK Party wants to support our candidate in some places, we won't ask why they are doing so, or in some places, they might put forward such a good candidate that we would support the ruling party's candidate."

"WE WILL DISPLAY A PICTURE OPEN TO COOPERATION"

Responding to questions from T24's Murat Sabuncu, Davutoğlu reminded that the positions of the parties for the local elections have not yet taken shape, stating, "While almost all parties are showing the will to enter with their own logos on one hand, they are not closing the door to potential cooperation on the other. In political life, I have learned something as a result of mistakes I have sometimes made myself. Using expressions like 'never, absolutely, under no circumstances, definitely, until eternity' in politics is very dangerous. Developments take a different course, and you become a prisoner of your own words. The late Demirel's expression, 'yesterday is yesterday, today is today,' expresses this reality more than it legitimizes contradictions. In other words, I have never used an expression saying we will absolutely enter on our own. I have also not used an expression saying we will absolutely form an alliance. Now, what we are doing, the work we are conducting with our friends, is this.

Starting from Monday, we will analyze the provinces one by one again with all our friends. We will determine where and with whom we can cooperate, and where we can enter on our own. First, we have a commitment to the Felicity Party; we will consult with them. We will try to find common ground with them. Then, local elections are autonomous, meaning a separate logic of alliance arises everywhere. Within that logic of alliance, we will display a picture open to cooperation with everyone," he said.

"WE COULD SUPPORT THE RULING PARTY'S CANDIDATE"

Clarifying the issue of cooperation with everyone, Davutoğlu said, "Essentially with opposition parties, but if by chance the ruling party puts forward a good candidate that we also embrace in a place, it is for the good of that city, and we would support that too. In principle, we are ready to talk to all parties, regardless of whether they are the ruling party or the opposition. If the MHP or the AK Party wants to support our candidate in some places, we won't ask why they are doing so, or in some places, they might put forward such a good, honest, and competent candidate that we could support the ruling party's candidate through negotiation. What is important is that our cities are governed by the most correct, honest, and competent people," he said.
