Ahmet Türk, who had applied for candidacy for the DEM Party Co-Mayoralty of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, announced that he is withdrawing his candidacy and leaving active politics after failing to pass the threshold in the primary election.
DID NOT WIN IN THE FIRST ROUND
Yesterday (January 13), a primary election was held within the DEM Party for the Co-Mayoralty of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality. 6 thousand 696 delegates cast their votes in the primary. In the first round of the primary, Ahmet Türk received 2 thousand 540 votes, Devrim Demir 1 thousand 788, Gülizar İpek Bilek 1 thousand 665, and Azad Yıldırım 703. Since none of the candidates reached the 50+1 threshold, the election went to a second round.
"MALE CO-MAYOR ELECTION HALTED"
Withdrawing his application, Türk stated, “I had previously announced that I would withdraw if I did not exceed 50 percent. I thank the people for their support. I am withdrawing from active politics. I will continue the struggle of the Kurdish people on different platforms.”
HAD BEEN REPLACED BY TRUSTEES TWICE
Ahmet Türk was elected mayor in Mardin in 2014 and 2019, but was removed from office and replaced by a government-appointed trustee on both occasions.
