Akın Gürlek investigation into Ekrem İmamoğlu: Date for testimony set

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu will provide testimony as part of an investigation launched due to his statements regarding Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek. İmamoğlu is expected to testify within the scope of the investigation in question. 

WHAT DID İMAMOĞLU SAY ABOUT AKIN GÜRLEK?

The incident began after the harsh statements made by İmamoğlu, who was reacting to the detention of the CHP Youth Branch Chairman. In his speech, addressing Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek, İmamoğlu had used the following expressions:

“Chief Prosecutor, we will rip out the mind that controls you to save even your own children from these treatments. We will rip it out so that no one shows up at your children's door, and no one takes them from their homes at the crack of dawn.”

Following these words, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an ex officio investigation on the grounds that İmamoğlu “threatened Akın Gürlek and his family.” Within the scope of the investigation, İmamoğlu's lawyer contacted the prosecutor's office and provided information regarding the day and time for the testimony.

HE WILL TESTIFY ON FRIDAY MORNING  

It has been learned that IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu will provide his testimony to the investigation prosecutor at the Istanbul Courthouse on Friday morning. While no statement has been made by İmamoğlu's side regarding the matter, the investigation in question has caused a wide stir in public opinion.
