AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan: "There is a security problem between us and America"

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, following the United States' downing of a Turkish drone (SİHA), stated: "Are we not together with America in NATO? We are. Well, did America shoot down our drone or not? It did. How are we together in NATO with you? How can you do such a thing? There is a security problem between us."

AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan:

Erdoğan delivered a speech at the closing ceremony of the 4th Turkey-Africa Business and Economic Forum at the Istanbul Congress Center.

Noting that while experiencing the negative effects of the Russia-Ukraine war, the events occurring between Israel and Palestine have deeply shaken everyone, AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan said, “We are concerned about the possibility of the tension increasing further and spreading to the region.

I am stating clearly that we do not accept, and will never accept, attacks such as the bombing of mosques, hospitals, and civilian settlements. It is known that the blockade, which worsens the humanitarian situation in Gaza, has rendered the region a sensitive situation open to provocations.

From here, through you, I call out to the entire world: cutting off the electricity, water, fuel, and food of 2 million people squeezed into 360 square kilometers is a violation of the most basic human rights.

The collective punishment of the people of Gaza will only exacerbate the problem, leading to more tension and more tears. The Israeli administration must allow humanitarian aid to pass through the Rafah Border Crossing.

We sent a humanitarian aid plane this morning to El Arish Airport, which includes medicine, durable food, canned goods, diapers, water, and medical supplies.

Our plane, which carried the first aid cargo to reach the region since the conflicts began, landed at the airport today as of 12:00. Our AFAD Presidency is continuing its preparations for the shipment of new aid materials to the region.

While we are doing this, while the United Arab Emirates is doing the same, while Qatar is providing such aid, and while Saudi Arabia is doing the same, we suddenly see that America is talking about sending an aircraft carrier here.

England is talking about sending an aircraft carrier. Are these things in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights? Right now, in Gaza, women, children, mothers—everything that exists—are being destroyed. No one is concerned about this, but we are concerned.

If you have even the slightest respect for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, then excuse me, but everyone should be talking about what kind of aid we can provide here.

But they have no such concern. Now, we will continue to deliver aid to Gaza with the brotherly Egyptian authorities. The cutting off of humanitarian aid to Palestinians while millions of people face the threat of starvation is a new stain of shame that has stuck to the foreheads of those who made this decision,” he said.

"GAZA IS THE OPPRESSED, THE VICTIM"

Calling on all parties to act with common sense and discuss first a ceasefire and then a lasting peace, President Erdoğan said, “Both myself and my Foreign Minister, who is currently on his way to Egypt, as well as my MİT Undersecretary, are continuing our contacts intensively to find a way out of the crisis, primarily regarding the release of hostages.

However, the provocative attitudes of some actors who pour gasoline on the fire instead of establishing calm are both disrupting our efforts and deepening the crisis. As of now, Gaza is the oppressed, the victim.

But there is no such situation of being an oppressed party for Israel. Of course, the United States, with whom we are together in NATO, sending aircraft carriers to the region unfortunately makes no contribution to peace, calm, dialogue, diplomacy, or the de-escalation of tension between the parties. Now, more importantly, America's Secretary of State is meeting with my Foreign Minister.

He says, 'I am approaching Israel not as a Secretary of State, but as a Jew.' What kind of politician is this?”
