AKP figure claims police intervention possible at Özgür Özel's 'Güvenpark' meeting! 'If the program turns into a rally...'
Amidst the controversy over the absolute nullity decision in the CHP, two separate holiday greeting programs will be held in Ankara today. While Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu will meet with party members at the CHP Headquarters, Özgür Özel will address his supporters at Güvenpark. Former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar claimed that the police could intervene if Özel's program 'takes on the atmosphere of a rally.'
Today, two different crowds are preparing to gather in the capital, overshadowed by recent developments within the Republican People's Party (CHP).
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was 'brought' to the CHP chairmanship following an absolute nullity decision, announced that he would address party members at the CHP Headquarters at 14:00.
At the same time, the elected chairman of the CHP, Özgür Özel, will hold a 'holiday greeting meeting' at Güvenpark in Kızılay to come together with his supporters in Ankara.
Last week, following Kılıçdaroğlu's return to the chairmanship seat by court order, a petition was filed requesting the evacuation of the CHP Headquarters by police intervention, and the events during the evacuation operation fueled debates within the party.
Rumors that sources close to Kılıçdaroğlu had applied to the Ankara Governor's Office for the cancellation of the event at Güvenpark were heavily discussed in Ankara political circles throughout the day. However, in response to the allegations, Kılıçdaroğlu's press advisor Atakan Sönmez stated, "The Governor's Office asked whether the calls for marches to be held by various district organizations across the province tomorrow were made under the instruction of the CHP administration, and the CHP Headquarters shared the information that there was no such call. There is no request or application for a ban."
Following these developments, a notable comment came from former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar. In a post on his social media account, Tayyar emphasized that the holiday greeting event planned by Özel had not been banned by the Ankara Governor's Office, but claimed, "If the program turns into a rally, the Ankara Police will intervene."
