AKP's Erdem expresses opposition to Sweden's NATO accession

AKP Istanbul MP İsmail Erdem, at a press conference held in Parliament, wished God's mercy upon the soldiers who were martyred in a terrorist organization PKK attack in northern Iraq.

Stating that the martyrdom of 12 soldiers in northern Iraq was not a coincidence, Erdem said that "behind this are Israel, the USA, the UK, and all European countries."

"THERE IS A NATIONAL ISSUE AT HAND"

Reminding that the AK Party, MHP, IYI Party, and Saadet Party had issued a joint declaration regarding the terrorist attack, Erdem recalled that the CHP did not sign the declaration. Erdem said, "If the CHP is acting this way thinking about the elections to be held on March 31, they are mistaken. There is a national issue at hand, not a party issue."

"I AM AGAINST SWEDEN'S ENTRY INTO NATO"

Recalling that the Bill on the Approval of the Ratification of the Protocol on the Accession of the Kingdom of Sweden to NATO was being discussed in the TBMM Foreign Affairs Committee, Erdem said that when looking at the sources that have fed the terrorist organization for years, Sweden is one of them. Erdem continued as follows:

"As long as Sweden does not distance itself from all terrorist organizations that harbor hostility toward the Republic of Turkey, and as long as it allows the burning of the Holy Quran under state supervision, its entry into NATO should not be granted. I am speaking for myself; as an AK Party MP, I am against Sweden's entry into NATO. Furthermore, NATO's current existence should also be questioned."
