AKP takes action to increase membership
The AKP has launched a new campaign to increase its number of members across Turkey. This initiative has brought past scandals involving fraudulent memberships back to the agenda.
The AKP Organization Presidency has launched a new effort to increase the party's official membership count. The issue was addressed at the AKP Central Decision and Administrative Board (MKYK) meeting held under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Organization President Ahmet Büyükgümüş emphasized to the ministers and MKYK members at the meeting that the target membership numbers set for all 81 provinces must be reached.
The AKP's goal of increasing its current membership of 11 million 146 thousand 217 has brought to mind past cases of fraudulent memberships. In recent years, it was revealed that many people had been registered as AKP members without their knowledge or consent. In particular, the registration of public officials as members without their knowledge, in violation of the law, had drawn attention.
Media Ombudsman Faruk Bildirici, one of the individuals registered as an AKP member without his knowledge, stated that he had complained about the situation to the Ministry of Justice and the Personal Data Protection Authority via CİMER. Bildirici said, "How did the fraudsters access my personal data? This must be investigated. After my complaint to the AKP Ankara provincial and headquarters offices, I was called and told that 'a mistake was made inadvertently during telephone membership registration and that my membership would be deleted.' But it still hasn't been deleted. It is clear that a large number of people are being registered as members in a systematic way."
REACTIONS FROM CHP
In recent months, it was revealed that many citizens in the Etimesgut and Sincan districts of Ankara had been registered as AKP members without their knowledge. CHP Deputy Chairman Gül Çiftçi reacted to this situation, saying, "Where does the AKP find this information? Our citizens are being registered as members of a political party against their will. All our citizens should check their records via e-Devlet. Citizens who have been registered as members of any political party against their will should first resign from the membership and then exercise their legal rights."
MEMBERSHIP CHECK VIA E-DEVLET
Citizens can check their political party memberships via e-Devlet. By typing "Siyasi parti üyelik sorgulama" (Political party membership inquiry), they can learn their membership status and terminate their memberships with the "Siyasi parti üyelik iptali" (Political party membership cancellation) option.
