AKP's 2028 anxiety leaks from behind the scenes: 'An election cannot be won with this team'

Criticism regarding the organizational structure within the AKP has been increasing recently. According to a report by Cumhuriyet, it is stated that the organizational model, which established a strong bond with neighborhoods and streets in the party's early years, has over time transformed into a narrow structure based on local power balances. It is noted that this change became particularly evident after 2015 and that the principle of "loyalty" has been ignored.

It is expressed that the organizations have increasingly become "program and protocol-oriented," with teams that used to travel from neighborhood to neighborhood being replaced by groups with more limited field contact, a situation that has led to a decrease in contact with the public.

The view that the "consciousness of the cause," frequently emphasized by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has weakened under the pressure of local balances is causing discomfort within the party. Behind the scenes, it is stated that the problems are not personal but structural and stem from habits.

Party sources argue that failure could be experienced in the 2028 elections with the current organizational structure. An official from the AKP stated, "We are disconnected from the public. An election cannot be won with this team."

While concerns that this structure will become permanent are coming to the fore, there is a common expectation that the bond with the founding cadres should be strengthened again and that the principle of loyalty should be placed at the center.
