AKP's execution package to be submitted to Parliament at 15:00

The "Execution Law," which was expected to be brought to Parliament and enacted before the Eid al-Adha holiday, has dashed the hopes of more than 400 thousand inmates and millions of their relatives following the meeting between the AKP and the DEM Party, with the announcement that "changes have been left for the autumn" except for certain articles.

Although both parties stated that the meetings were generally positive, DEM Party Group Deputy Chairman Sezai Temelli made a statement regarding the execution law negotiations, saying, "The upcoming proposal will only include sick prisoners."

The government stated that an impact analysis had not been conducted and therefore the changes were left for the autumn."

EXECUTION PACKAGE IN PARLIAMENT

The removal of "Covid releases" at the last minute from the execution regulation, which the AKP and MHP prepared with the contribution of the DEM Party, has stirred political lobbies.

The AKP, which is known to have made changes to some articles following the DEM meeting, will submit the regulation that will lead to changes in the execution law to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) today at 15:00.

While the reasons for such a change are being questioned in government and opposition lobbies, new approaches have been added to the assessments coming from the government front that "concerns that FETÖ prisoners could also benefit must be addressed. A deeper impact analysis is needed."

The continuation of the "disarmament process," which began after May 12, when the PKK announced its congress decisions stating that it had dissolved itself and decided to lay down arms, also played a role in the removal of "Covid releases" from the execution regulation.

According to the report by Hilal Köylü; in government lobbies, where it is being discussed that carrying out "Covid releases" before the disarmament process is completed "would not be in line with the spirit of the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process," the view that "A broad execution regulation will be made. The execution regulation will come to parliament after the disarmament is completed" has begun to prevail.
