Akşener responds to 'AK Party is king' remark: 'Then the İYİ Party is queen'

İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener, who has decided to enter the local elections "freely and independently," visited and chatted with shopkeepers at the Mevlana Neighborhood street market in Ankara's Sincan district. During her visit, Akşener encountered Melih Güner, the Sincan mayoral candidate for the New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi). Presenting flowers to Akşener for International Women's Day on March 8, Güner conveyed his best wishes to the İYİ Party's Sincan mayoral candidate.

"THEY WERE ABLE TO SOLVE SOME, BUT NOT OTHERS"

Chatting with the shopkeepers, Akşener said, "Give us strength so your voice can be heard. I have been visiting shopkeepers for 3 years," and continued as follows:

"I tried to make your voice heard. In those shops, I saw the retirees, I saw our young women. I saw our teachers who could not be appointed. We shared each of these with the public and told the government to solve these problems. They were able to solve some, but not others. Look, for a long time, I personally went to homes experiencing what they call deep poverty and studied it. Stunting has begun in big cities; I was the first to point that out. Politics is a matter of competition, and you are the bosses. Your status as bosses will emerge in this election. Do not vote based on whether I am 'this or that,' but based on whether I will provide good service, and whether this child will provide good service. Strengthen us. Then watch what happens. The voter is the boss, just like your customers. Therefore, we have come before you to try to explain something, and if we can convince you, we ask for your votes. If we cannot convince you, of course you will not vote for us, and we will say 'as you wish' to that as well. Competition benefits the voter. It benefits better service, but we have been at each other's throats over 'this or that' labels, and no one has been thinking about you."

"THE İYİ PARTY IS QUEEN"

Later, Akşener moved to an area where lokma (a traditional fried dough dessert) was being distributed by the İYİ Party and offered it to female journalists and citizens. At that moment, upon hearing a young child say "the AK Party is king," Akşener laughed and replied, "Then the İYİ Party is queen."
