Ali Babacan's 'coward' reaction to Meral Akşener! 'To the one you said "you are my candidate" yesterday...'
Speaking at his weekly agenda evaluation meeting, DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan reacted to IYI Party leader Meral Akşener's use of the word 'coward' regarding Ekrem İmamoğlu and Mansur Yavaş.
Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA) Chairman Ali Babacan held a press conference at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) today (December 21).
Evaluating the process within the opposition front following the presidential elections, Babacan stated, "I would like to express a reality we have been experiencing for the last six months here. As the opposition bloc, we could not achieve the success we desired in the general elections, which we entered with great faith. We are aware that the election results created disappointment and hopelessness not only among voters who support the opposition but also among many people actively involved in politics."
Touching upon the polemics between the CHP and the IYI Party, which decided to enter the local elections 'freely and independently,' Babacan reacted to Meral Akşener targeting Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş with the word 'coward.' Babacan stated, "You cannot build trust if you call someone an 'enemy' today whom you held hands with yesterday. You cannot build trust if you call someone a 'coward' today whom you said 'you are my candidate' to yesterday."
Babacan's statements are as follows;
"With three months left until the election, we are watching with great embarrassment what those who were sitting at the same table just yesterday are saying and doing to each other. Such attitudes do not build trust. You cannot build trust if you call someone an 'enemy' today whom you held hands with yesterday. You cannot build trust if you call someone a 'coward' today whom you said 'you are my candidate' to yesterday. The most effective way to stop this deterioration in our country and to serve our nation is legitimate democratic politics. I want to call out to all those who object to this lawlessness and injustice, to everyone whose heart is full of love for the homeland, to all democrats: never give up on politics. Do not leave the administration of the country to the incompetent."
On the other hand, Babacan announced that he will introduce his second group of mayoral candidates in Ankara next week.
