Ali Babacan responds to the question 'Will you join the AKP?': 'As the DEVA Party...'

DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan made statements regarding the agenda on İlke TV.

While Future Party leader Ahmet Davutoğlu's recent overtures toward the AKP continue to be a topic of discussion, Ali Babacan was also asked whether he would join the AKP.

"I think talking about hypotheticals only confuses people," said Babacan, continuing as follows:

"If the AK Party does this, if Mr. Erdoğan does that... It didn't work with the people we worked with for years, it just doesn't work. We left because it wasn't working anyway. So what has changed that would make you go back? Right? What has changed? I have no declaration of intent. Forget about a step, there isn't even a declaration of intent. I mean, by chance... You know, in Syria... Correct things happened, look, they yielded results in the right areas. But the AK Party's Syria policy hasn't changed. There is no change in the AK Party's Syria policy. I mean, what are they even saying? They are saying 'Look, we were right,' right? There is no change in the AK Party's Syria policy. Whether it was right or wrong, it's the same issue."

'AS THE DEVA PARTY, WE ARE STANDING FIRM IN OUR PLACE'

I mean, our presence there with military units to prevent migration, protecting Syrians against the regime's oppression not just by taking them into Turkey but by protecting them there, these are the right things, look. As I said, I give credit where the government does things right, but there is no change in those areas. So, just because there is a new situation in Syria, could we return to the AK Party or something? We have no such thing. There is no such thing in the DEVA Party, and there won't be. Because there are many policy areas, and the root causes that were our main reasons for leaving remain exactly as they were. There is no intention to correct them either. First, we need to see an intention. Then we need to see concrete steps so that... I could say, 'I wonder if things are changing.' There isn't even a trace of this right now. So, therefore, there is no point in talking about these things at all. I mean, there is no point in talking about meaningless things and confusing people.

I mean, as the DEVA Party, we are standing firm in our place and walking in the direction we know, in line with our own principles and values. Our direction is very clear. I mean, we are not confused or anything. We are walking in a clear direction. Because sooner or later, justice will prevail. Sooner or later, the truth will reach its goal. That is our belief."
