Ali Babacan makes statement on 'alliance with CHP'

DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan met with a group of journalists in Istanbul.

Making statements regarding the agenda, Babacan announced his party's roadmap for the upcoming local elections.

According to the report in Cumhuriyet, Babacan stated that they would enter the election with their own candidates and that while they are open to limited cooperation, they do not expect a major alliance between party headquarters.

Stating that the new CHP leadership emphasizes "how bad the cooperation turned out to be," Babacan said, "Cooperation may no longer be easy for the CHP." Noting that the CHP discussed the election alliance internally several times but that negative opinions emerged from party boards, Babacan said, "Changing their position after this point would not be taken into account."

"We are currently postponing the announcement of candidates in provinces and districts where cooperation might be possible," said Babacan, adding, "If there is to be cooperation, it must be based on the principle of reciprocity." While saying, "We may cooperate in a small number of provinces and districts," Babacan expressed that they do not expect an election alliance across Turkey, stating, "If one day a wind of cooperation blows between the headquarters, we will talk, but I do not think the environment is very suitable."
