Ali Babacan's decision on Istanbul and Ankara! Will the DEVA Party field candidates?

Turkey has entered the local election atmosphere. Political parties have accelerated their efforts for the elections on March 31, 2024.

While the doors to alliances have completely closed on the opposition front, the AKP aims to win back the metropolitan cities it lost in 2019, primarily Istanbul and Ankara.

The roadmap for the local elections of the DEVA Party, a former partner of the Nation Alliance which dissolved after the May 14-28 elections, has also become clear.

DEVA PARTY'S DECISION ON ANKARA AND ISTANBUL

DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan announced at a meeting with journalists that they will field candidates in Istanbul and Ankara.

Sözcü columnist İsmail Saymaz, who covered the topic in his column, wrote about what the DEVA leader Ali Babacan explained during his meeting with journalists.

The relevant part of the article is as follows: 

"Babacan pulled a yellow and a red card from his pocket. He said they would show a yellow card to the government on March 31 and a red card in 2028.

He stated that they would field candidates in every electoral district, including Istanbul and Ankara, with the exception of a few provinces and districts. He noted that an alliance, as was the case on May 14-28, is not possible.

Babacan said the following:

'Our intention is for the DEVA Party to enter the election with its own candidates. But what is the exception? If a logical cooperation model is formed at the local level, and if this is accepted by the party headquarters and a consensus is reached, these could happen on an individual basis.'"
