All eyes on September 15 in the CHP: Could a 'nullity' ruling jeopardize the extraordinary convention?

The CHP leadership is maintaining a determined stance on convening an extraordinary convention, despite the possibility of a "nullity" (mutlak butlan) ruling from the court on September 15 and the potential for former chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to return to the party. The party plans to hold the convention just six days after this critical court hearing.

According to a report by Sözcü, CHP leader Özgür Özel aims to maintain the current sixty-member Party Assembly list. The vote of confidence to be held at the convention will bring both the chairmanship race and the restructuring of the Party Assembly to the agenda. The Headquarters, citing decisions made by the Supreme Election Council regarding the Istanbul congresses, emphasizes that "the extraordinary convention cannot be stopped because it is being held at the request of the delegates." Thus, it is stated that even if a nullity ruling is issued by the court, the convention could still take place within a week.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A "NULLITY" RULING IS ISSUED?

However, the opposite is also possible. It is stated that if the court issuing the nullity ruling terminates the delegates' duties, the convention will not take place. Attention is drawn to the fact that the rule requiring the signature collection process to be notified at least 15 days in advance and the 7-day review process were not followed.
