All eyes on the critical summit in Ankara: Erdoğan and Özel to meet today!

All eyes in the political agenda have turned to the meeting between AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel.

The AKP and CHP chairmen will meet for the first time since 2016.

The process leading to this meeting at the chairman level, which will take place for the first time in 8 years, was initiated by the holiday greeting phone call Özel made to Erdoğan.

Erdoğan and Özel had a brief meeting at the April 23 reception held for the 104th anniversary of the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. The decision to meet was made during that encounter.

AGENDA: NEW CONSTITUTION

According to the report on NTV, the main agenda item for the meeting, which will take place at 16:00 at the AKP Headquarters, is the new constitution. In his statement to journalists upon his return from Iraq, Erdoğan had said, "I believe that the CHP can also support the change."

In addition to the constitution, Özgür Özel's agenda will include increasing the revenue sources of local governments that are experiencing difficulties due to their debts.

On the other hand, municipal projects awaiting approval from the central government, the cost of living, pension payments, and teachers waiting for appointments will be other topics on the agenda.

Before the critical meeting, Özel spoke by phone with former CHP chairmen Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Altan Öymen, Hikmet Çetin, and Murat Karayalçın, and received their views and suggestions regarding his meeting with Erdoğan.
