Allegation from Özgür Özel regarding instructions to prosecutors!
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel brought up allegations that prosecutors are being prompted to conduct operations from Ankara and called on the government regarding a by-election.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel met with Democrat Party Chairman Gültekin Uysal as part of his political party visits. The meeting took place at the Celal Bayar Mansion. The delegation also included CHP Secretary General Selin Sayek Böke and Deputy Chairmen Serkan Özcan and Gökçe Gökçen.
Making statements after the visit, Özgür Özel raised the allegation that prosecutors across Turkey are receiving phone calls from Ankara and are being prompted to carry out operations. Özel stated the following:
"Prosecutors all over Turkey are receiving calls from Ankara saying, 'Is there no tip-off? Investigations start with simple suspicion, is there no rumor?' and they are being prompted to conduct certain operations."
BY-ELECTION AND CONSTITUTIONAL DEBATE
During his meeting, Özgür Özel also criticized the government's stance on a by-election. Addressing President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Özel demanded that the ballot box be brought forward and that the public be allowed to decide on the allegations. Özel continued his remarks as follows:
"Put the ballot box out so we can respond to your claims. We have expressed our expectation and demand regarding a by-election. At the point where they started making calculations, they neglected to read the Constitution. Everyone who can read and write now understands that after 30 months, a by-election is a necessity and filling those seats is mandatory. We are practically facing a situation of criminality."
Özel argued that Article 77 of the Constitution is not being implemented and that avoiding a by-election is a sign of political exhaustion.
CRITICISM OF THE JUDICIARY VIA THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE
Özgür Özel claimed that as long as Akın Gürlek, who serves in the Ministry of Justice, remains in his position, suspicion arises among members of the judiciary. Özel stated that this situation harms the rule of law in the country.
He used the expression, "Every day that Akın Gürlek sits in the Ministry of Justice, it raises suspicion for all prosecutors and judges serving across Turkey who believe they are doing what their duty requires."
