Allegations of harassment against female interns in Parliament on the agenda

Allegations that female interns at the TBMM were subjected to harassment have drawn reactions from all political parties in Parliament. TBMM Deputy Speaker Tekin Bingöl stated that the matter must be investigated in depth, saying, "The Parliament has an obligation to uncover this incident with all its details." Bingöl expressed that the formation of a commission is being considered, which would provide an opportunity to investigate not only this incident but the issue of harassment in general.

Following allegations that female interns working in the Parliament cafeteria were harassed by some parliamentary staff, the TBMM General Secretariat announced that a cook has been suspended and investigations into other personnel are ongoing. Similar allegations have also surfaced on social media.

REACTIONS FROM POLITICAL PARTIES

DEM Party member Gülistan Koçyiğit emphasized that the Parliament should establish a commission to investigate the matter, while CHP member Ali Mahir Başarır said, "We want the harassment allegation to be investigated thoroughly in all its administrative and legal aspects." IYI Party member Turhan Çömez stated that such incidents are systematic and that the institutions sending the interns also lack proper oversight. MHP member Filiz Kılıç and AKP member Muhammet Emin Akbaşoğlu also stated that the issue must be resolved urgently.

PROPOSAL TO ESTABLISH A COMMISSION

Chair of the TBMM Human Rights Investigation Commission Derya Yanık stated that they will follow the process closely. It was announced that the Ministry of Family and Social Services will also intervene once the legal process begins.

CHP leader Özgür Özel expressed great anger and shame regarding the issue, stating, "This matter must be investigated by the Parliament administration with the fastest and harshest measures." Özel also reacted to the police obstruction faced by women protesting the incident at the Parliament.
