It is alleged that Beykoz Deputy Mayor Özlem Gürzel Vural, who joined the AKP, was insulted and spat on by her neighbor following her political transfer.
Beykoz Deputy Mayor Özlem Gürzel Vural, who had been serving as acting mayor in place of Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler—who was released at his first hearing after being held in Silivri Prison on September 4—announced today that she has joined the AKP.
President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan officially confirmed her entry into the party by pinning the AKP badge on Gürzel.
However, Gürzel's move to the AKP was met with a harsh reaction from her neighbor. It was reported that during an incident at her residence in Beykoz, a neighbor insulted Özlem Gürzel Vural and spat in her face.
Burak Doğan, a reporter for the pro-government newspaper Yeni Şafak, announced the incident and stated: “She was insulted in front of her children and then spat on.”
