Ankara district mayors had sent messages of support... Emphasis on unity from Mansur Yavaş!
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, in his speech at the National Sovereignty Congress, emphasized the independence of the law and stated that there must be unity against the unlawful practices of the government. Yavaş used striking expressions regarding the impartiality of the judiciary.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş made important statements at the National Sovereignty Congress held in the capital. Touching upon the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary in his speech, Yavaş emphasized that society must act in unity.
Stating that one should not remain silent against unlawful practices, Yavaş said, "When we are not one and together, the generations after us will not forgive us. We must act together against the government's lawlessness. We clearly feel the necessity of this. For example, Mr. Özdağ. The law should not be the government's stick. No one has any doubt about this."
''A JUDGE MUST BE IMPARTIAL''
Emphasizing that the judiciary must be independent, Yavaş said, "Judges must stand at an equal distance to everyone. One cannot sit next to someone and say, 'I am impartial.' One needs to be sensitive about this issue."
"I AM TRULY SADDENED"
Touching upon the investigations carried out in recent days, the ABB Mayor continued as follows:
- Someone today - the things we have experienced in recent days - expresses their opinion on a subject. It is not clear whether this is a crime or not. Moreover, the prosecutor can claim that it is a crime. They file a lawsuit, and one is tried. As a lawyer, I am truly saddened to see many people arrested because of tweets.
"NO ONE WILL INVEST IN THIS COUNTRY"
- We are not running away from being tried. But if you are taken from your home in the early hours of the morning after posting a tweet, or if it is announced in the pro-government media half an hour after you make a speech that an investigation has been opened against you, no one can claim that this judiciary is independent. So who is harmed by this? Our country is harmed. No one will invest in such a country. It is necessary to speak in a language that everyone can understand.
THE MOZAMBIQUE EXAMPLE
- We will go to Mozambique in the coming days. We will also take a delegation of investors from Ankara. 4-5 thousand residences and a shopping mall will be built. They want business people to work in the mining sector. If one of you were to go, what would come to your mind? 'We will take capital, but will we be able to get the money for the work we do?'
- If this were coming from a European country, would you think like this? You would think, 'The law works there anyway, no one can take my rights away from me there.' This is the situation our country has fallen into right now. While acting close to the government, Turkey's reputation is being destroyed.
- The more law, the more democracy, the more bread it means. Investment does not come to such a country. The reasons for today's hunger and poverty, alongside corruption, ostentation, and waste, are also these types of treatments.
