In the 2014 Presidential Elections, he received 51.79 percent of the vote, surpassing the joint candidate of the CHP and MHP, Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, to become the 12th President.

In 2018, he was elected President for the 2nd time with 52.59 percent of the vote in an election where CHP candidate Muharrem İnce received 30.64 percent.

In 2023, he competed against the Nation Alliance candidate and former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in the election he entered as the candidate of the People's Alliance.

In the first round, Erdoğan received 49.52 percent, and in the second round, he was elected President for the 3rd time with 52.18 percent, having also received the support of Sinan Oğan, who had received 5.17 percent in the first round.
