Antalya Aksu Mayor İsa Yıldırım has resigned from the CHP and joined the AKP. During the badge-pinning ceremony, a brief attempt by Yıldırım to kiss Erdoğan's hand occurred, with Erdoğan pulling his hand back.
Antalya Aksu Mayor İsa Yıldırım was elected as the CHP candidate in the 2024 local elections. Yıldırım announced his resignation from the CHP on September 27, 2025.
STATEMENT ON SWITCHING TO THE AKP
Yıldırım announced his intention to join the AKP on October 25, 2025. He stated, "Of course, there are invitations, there are calls. We said, 'Sure, we will join.'" Yıldırım officially joined the AKP on November 19, 2025.
BADGE CEREMONY AND THE HAND-KISSING MOMENT
During the AKP Group Meeting, Yıldırım was invited to the podium by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Erdoğan pinned the AKP badge on Yıldırım. After the badge was pinned, Yıldırım leaned in to kiss Erdoğan's hand. Erdoğan quickly pulled his hand back.
