Attack on CHP stand in Kadıköy! 15-year-old youth hospitalized

While the repercussions of the attack on CHP Chairman Özgür Özel following the funeral of DEM Party Istanbul MP and Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Sırrı Süreyya Önder continue throughout the day, it has been reported that an attack took place at a CHP stand in Istanbul. It is alleged that a 15-year-old child singing the song "Kurtuluş Yok Tek Başına" at a CHP stand in Istanbul was physically assaulted with punches.

FIRST VERBAL HARASSMENT, THEN ASSAULT

According to a written statement made by the CHP Kadıköy District Youth Branch, 15-year-old A.Ç.C., who was accompanying the song "Kurtuluş Yok Tek Başına" playing at the "Ekrem İmamoğlu and early election stand" set up by the CHP Kadıköy District Presidency in front of the Kadıköy PTT in Istanbul, was subjected to verbal harassment by 3 people passing by.

When A.Ç.C., who was told not to sing the song, continued to sing, he was attacked by one of the individuals in the group. A.Ç.C., who was injured in the eye due to the blows he received, was taken to the hospital, while the perpetrator and those with him fled the scene.

STATEMENT FROM ÖZGÜR ÇELİK

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik participated in Sinem Fıstıkoğlu's program on Halk TV and made the following statement regarding the issue:

"Three young brothers of ours, aged 14-15, came to our stand in Kadıköy and were singing the song 'Kurtuluş yok tek başına'. While these children were singing the song, 3 adults came over and said, 'Do not sing this song.' The youths said they wanted to sing it; we play that song at our stands anyway.

While they were arguing over whether to sing it or not, the 3 adults attacked the children, and unfortunately, one of our young brothers was beaten and injured in his eye.

We condemn this attack as well. I mean, the CHP's presidential candidate, elected with 15 and a half million votes, is currently in Silivri prison. We are collecting signatures for freedom for our presidential candidate, for freedom for political prisoners, and for early elections. We are carrying this out through peaceful methods, and an attack is being carried out against this."
