Ayşe Ateş, wife of Sinan Ateş, announces press conference

The investigation into the murder of the former Ülkü Ocakları (Idealist Hearths) President, who lost his life as a result of an armed attack in Çukurambar, one of the most central locations in Ankara, last year, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Ateş, is still ongoing. Despite a year having passed since the Ateş murder, an indictment has not yet been prepared. His wife, Ayşe Ateş, made a statement ahead of the anniversary of her husband's death.

Ayşe Ateş, in her statement regarding her husband, said, "Sinan has been lying where he was shot for exactly one year. Only when justice is served, all the perpetrators are caught and receive the punishment they deserve, will our funeral be able to be lifted from where it lies, our souls will find some peace, and our streets will be illuminated."

"NEITHER HAS OUR PAIN SUBSIDED NOR HAS OUR LONGING ENDED"

Ayşe Ateş shared the following on her X account:

"It has been almost a year. For me, this was the first year of a life without Sinan, and for my children, a life without a father. Time flowed slower than it should have. The night was always longer than the day. The moon was ashamed of this, the stars were ashamed, the sun was ashamed. Only those who trampled on our pain were not ashamed. In the time that has passed, we have faced our pain, talked through our longing, and waited with hope. But our pain has not subsided, our longing has not ended, and our hopes have not been realized. Our souls have not seen a cool day, nor have they spent a peaceful moment."

"THE ENEMY IS IN AMBUSH, THE ENEMY IS COWARDLY, THE ENEMY IS HEARTLESS"

Even on the brightest days, the shadow of darkness made the streets feel narrow for us. My children forgot how to play with their friends in joy. I forgot how to lay my head on the pillow and sleep in peace. First, a piece of our soul was torn away. Then, our most basic rights were taken from us. There is no laughter for us, no eating or drinking for us, no walking the streets as we please for us. There is no longer that shoulder we could lean on in the evenings. There is no longer any shoulder we can trust other than our state. We are not afraid of any enemy that our eyes can see, our hands can reach, or our ears can hear. We are always ready for a fair fight. But the enemy is in ambush, the enemy is cowardly, the enemy is heartless."

"Sinan has been lying where he was shot for exactly one year. In this context, I invite Sinan's loved ones and all members of the press to attend the press conference we will hold on December 29, 2023, following Friday prayers, at the place where Sinan walked to God in a treacherous ambush. Stay with justice."
