Backstage buzz intensifies; Will he run? Ekrem İmamoğlu’s decision on the ‘party chairmanship’!

All eyes in the Republican People's Party (CHP) are turned toward the 38th Ordinary Convention to be held on November 4-5. 

Following the victory of the "change" faction in the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress, claims that “Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu could be a candidate for party chairman at the convention” had surfaced in party circles.

"EKREM BEY WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE A CANDIDATE"

Speaking to Milliyet regarding the matter, İmamoğlu’s aides said the following:

“Ekrem Bey will definitely not be a candidate. He is not someone who changes his mind every minute, so why would he? He has laid out his claim and goal regarding the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. His goal is a new type of populism. The issue of new-type populism and local governments is now being discussed all over the world. Ekrem Bey is one of the pioneers developing this idea. He has stated that he is a candidate for Istanbul again."

"HE VERY CLEARLY SAID 'I AM THE CANDIDATE FOR 2028'"

Regarding allegations that İmamoğlu intervened in the Istanbul Provincial Congress, his inner circle commented: “He prepared his speech. He didn't do anything like calling delegates or summoning this person or that person. With his speech, he showed how he approaches Turkey and how the substance of the change is being filled. He very clearly said, ‘I am the candidate for 2028.’”
