Bahçeli had called for it: What date is being discussed in AKP corridors for the Court of Cassation's CHP ruling?

The 'absolute nullity' ruling issued by the 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice had deemed the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress, held on November 4-5, 2023, invalid. In line with this decision, the powers of Özgür Özel and his administration, who were elected to the office of chairman by the votes of the delegates, were terminated, and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu was brought to the CHP Chairmanship.

SIGNATURES COLLECTED BUT KILIÇDAROĞLU CAMP SAYS 'COURT OF CASSATION'

Following the court ruling, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu stated in his announcement that a new congress would only be possible once the Court of Cassation's decision is finalized. However, with the current developments, supporters of Özgür Özel collected 900 signatures in as short a time as three days and initiated efforts for a congress. Nevertheless, Kılıçdaroğlu and his team oppose holding a congress before the Court of Cassation process is completed.

"A DECISION WILL BE MADE AROUND SEPTEMBER"

In political circles, the timing of the Court of Cassation's decision is being debated. According to information obtained from the AKP side, it is being discussed that the decision could be delayed until September due to the judicial recess.

According to journalist Hilmi Hacaloğlu, an AKP official made the assessment regarding the issue: "There is also the judicial recess. A decision will be made in 2-3 months, around September."

Another topic being discussed is that the file will be sent to a chamber at the Court of Cassation known for its past speed in handling political party cases. Lawyer Akın Atalay announced this situation to the public with the following words:

"When will the Court of Cassation rule on the absolute nullity decision regarding the CHP congress? Presumably within 2-3 months. How do I know? Because, in the Cumhuriyet Foundation case on the same subject (absolute nullity), the same chamber of the Court of Cassation had set a hearing date and issued a ruling exactly 73 days after the file arrived at the chamber. Upon this, I asked the chamber president (who is still the chamber president) in the presence of everyone at the hearing: 'While there are 14-15 thousand files waiting to be examined according to the file order in your chamber, why did you move our file to the front? Is there a reason for this speed that should make us worry?' He replied: 'Mr. Akın, in such cases that concern the general public or a large mass, our chamber has an approach of prioritizing the examination; this is not a situation unique to you (Cumhuriyet newspaper), for example, it is a situation we also apply for cases related to the general assemblies of sports club associations like Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, or a political party.' Submitted for the information of those concerned."

BAHÇELİ HAD CALLED ON THE COURT OF CASSATION

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli also made a call to the Court of Cassation regarding the absolute crisis in the CHP during his party's group meeting yesterday and emphasized that the decision should be made as soon as possible.
