Balances in the Turkish Parliament have shifted after AKP's transfers! Here is the seat count of the parties

The resignations of deputies and party changes that have taken place in recent weeks have redefined the representation weights in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). With the joining of Mersin Deputy Hasan Ufuk Çakır, Istanbul Deputy İsa Mesih Şahin, and Kahramanmaraş Deputy İrfan Karatutlu to the AKP at the latest group meeting, the party's number of seats in Parliament rose to 275.

While Çakır announced his departure from the Republican People's Party (CHP) in December, Şahin had resigned from the Future Party (Gelecek Partisi) in July. With Karatutlu's move to the AKP following his resignation from the New Way Party (Yeni Yol Partisi) on January 5, a visible change has occurred in the power balances of the parties.

This mobility in the distribution of parliamentary seats increased the number of AKP representatives in the TBMM from 272 to 275, while the number of CHP seats fell to 138. Furthermore, as a result of Karatutlu's departure from the New Way Party, the number of seats held by that party in parliament dropped to 20.

In the same process, following these transitions, the number of independent deputies was recorded as nine.

HOW HAVE THE BALANCES IN PARLIAMENT CHANGED?

The losses and resignations experienced in the recent period have also caused a decrease in the total number of deputies in Parliament. Due to the deaths of Saadet Party Kocaeli Deputy Hasan Bitmez and DEM Party Istanbul Deputy Sırrı Süreyya Önder, the stripping of Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Hatay Deputy Şerafettin Can Atalay's parliamentary status, and the appointment of some deputies to different positions, the number of seats in the TBMM fell from 600 to 592.

The resignations of AKP member Murat Kurum, who was appointed as the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and CHP deputies Burcu Köksal, Abdurrahman Tutdere, Hasan Baltacı, and Ahmet Önal, who were elected as mayors in the local elections, also played a role in the seat distribution.

Following the latest arrangement and the mobility of deputies, the current seat distribution of the parties in the TBMM has been shaped with a total of 592 members.

The new seat distribution in the TBMM by party is as follows:

Justice and Development Party: 275

Republican People's Party: 138

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party: 56

Nationalist Movement Party: 47

İYİ Party: 29

New Way Party: 20

Independent: 9

New Welfare Party: 4

Free Cause Party: 4

Workers' Party of Turkey: 3

Democratic Regions Party: 2
