BBP leader Destici shares 'rumor' on minimum wage: 'It could go above that figure'

Great Unity Party (BBP) Chairman Mustafa Destici shared a rumor he received regarding the 2024 minimum wage.

"A FIGURE ABOVE 17 THOUSAND LIRA MAY ALSO EMERGE"

Speaking to TGRT Haber, Destici said, "My rumor regarding the minimum wage is between 16,000 and 17,000 TL. In our opinion, it should not be below 17,000 TL."

Stating that he has "expressed this repeatedly," Destici said: "The minimum wage was being determined twice. It needs to continue to be determined twice. Because in a period where inflation is hovering at 40-50 percent, determining the minimum wage once a year means crushing the minimum wage earner under inflation."

Noting that "The Central Bank's 2024 inflation forecast is 38-40 percent," Destici added: "We look at international rating agencies, it is seen as 50-53 percent. Let's say 40-50 percent occurs. When half the year arrives, the minimum wage will have eroded."

SURPRISE EXPECTATION

Stating that he has a surprise expectation, Destici used the expressions: "If it is aimed to be determined once a year, it can be done by calculating the inflation difference as well. A higher figure, that is, above 17,000 TL, may also emerge."
