There is less than 6 months left until the local elections. While alliance debates continue on the opposition front, the People's Alliance has accelerated its work for the local elections following the AKP's 4th Extraordinary Congress.

AKP'S CANDIDATE WILL BE SUPPORTED IN METROPOLITAN CITIES

According to the report by Selda Güneysu from Cumhuriyet, in the meeting alleged to be held at a restaurant in Ankara, AKP and MHP officials will provide information about their preliminary work. It is stated that the delegations will prioritize the determination of metropolitan mayoral candidates within the scope of the cooperation. Within the scope of the cooperation established between AKP and MHP during the 2019 local elections, MHP had nominated candidates in Adana, Mersin, and Manisa, while AKP had nominated candidates in other metropolitan cities. It is noted that in the local elections planned to be held on March 31, 2024, just as in 2019, the MHP candidate will be supported in Adana, Mersin, and Manisa, and the AKP candidate will be supported in other metropolitan cities.

MHP MAY EXPRESS 'RESERVATIONS'

However, it is also suggested that this time, the MHP may express reservations when necessary regarding the names determined by the AKP for a "winnable candidate." It is pointed out that the voter structure in those metropolitan cities will be taken into account, especially in determining candidates for the 11 metropolitan municipalities currently held by the CHP.

It is also noted that the AKP and MHP are conducting a study on all metropolitan mayoral candidates, primarily for the 11 metropolitan municipalities held by the CHP. In this context, it is stated that in the metropolitan cities where the MHP will determine the candidate, "a name that the AK Party base will not object to" will be chosen, and in the metropolitan cities where the AKP nominates a candidate, "a name that the MHP base will not object to" will be chosen.

It is indicated that "balance will be observed" in the cooperation to be carried out for the 519 district mayoralties.
