The New Welfare Party (YRP), whose cooperation talks with the AKP stalled, announced that it would enter the local elections with its own candidates. YRP Chairman Fatih Erbakan announced that they would declare their candidates for Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir on February 10.

However, behind the scenes, rumors have begun to circulate about a possible new meeting between AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and YRP leader Fatih Erbakan.

According to a report by Serkan Demirtaş from T24; claims have been discussed within YRP circles that a potential meeting could take place before the candidate introduction meeting on February 10.

There have been many meetings between the AKP and the YRP to date. After each meeting, the two parties agreed to come together again. The AKP also determined the date of the next meeting. In the last meeting held, it was stated by the AKP that the expectations of the New Welfare Party could not be met, and the negotiations ended.

During this process, it was understood that the YRP demanded two metropolitan mayoralties as well as some provincial and district mayoralties in exchange for the support it would provide to the AKP, while the AKP only offered municipal council memberships in return. Following this, the negotiations stalled.
